Last week we went to a special Night at the Museum at the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum. We jumped at the chance to attend because our children love this museum AND they gave us TWO family passes that we will give away for FREE (see below).
We love the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum because it is fun for all ages. Our 2 year-old has just as much fun as our 8 year-old. On this special night, we were treated to some “extras” offered by the museum. We participated in an education class. Our boys sang songs, listened to books, and made Haunted Houses as part of the class. This was one of their favorite parts of the night, and we have their Haunted Houses on display in our home. The museum offer classes like this one almost every day, and they are free with admission to the museum. Make sure to check out the schedule online, or ask when you visit.
There is a new section on the roof of the museum that we hadn’t explored before. The helicopter is now an interactive Life Flight chopper, and they’ve added a Primary Children’s Hospital exhibit. Children (and adults) can take x-rays and MRIs, as well as fix broken bones and perform brain surgery (on iPads). We spent a lot of time playing in this new section because our dad had to perform all the operations available.
There is also a new Sensory Room designed for children with autism. There is only one other children’s museum in the country with a room that performs this service. My boys loved playing in this room, too, but it gives children with special needs their own place to explore and activities designed especially for their needs. We love that they are thinking about ALL children.
There will be a few other changes in the future, too. The grocery store is going to be completely remodeled thanks to Harmon’s Grocery which is funding a rebuild. They are also adding a work trailer like the ones on many construction sites to the construction area. Be sure to watch for these changes over the next year or so.
Due to the holidays there are also a TON of upcoming events. Here is a list of some of the fun activities they have planned, but be sure to check out Discovery Gateway for the complete schedule and for more information. Don’t forget to scroll down and participate in our Family Pass Giveaway!
